Ok so I love turkeys i got 13 little darlings and have no idea who is a he or she. And I am supposed to have slates, royals and pencils but honestly as they hatched i didnt mark whom came out of which egg so I gotta wait until they feather to see who is the royal and who is the pencil the lavenders i easily spotted them out..

Ok this might seem weird but i read something about when they was a day old if you flipped them over and their legs kept kicking it was a boy so to see if it worked i painted the ladies nails green LOL i dont know if its accurate but it will be fun to see if it works LOL

Anyways how many do i need to keep, i never had turkeys before and i know they get bigger, some are for the freezer but i need to keep enough for repopulation.. what is a good number honestly IDK if i will eat turkey eggs mainly just to repopluate what we eat...thanks

Also what is a good way to pick out a young tom?.. thanks

I would say if you just want to cover repopulation a trio would be more than sufficient. Plus give you eggs to eat hatch and sell.

If you have room would be a good idea to keep a spare tom. If you just have one something always seem to happen.

As far a picking a good tom. If your not worried about true breeding. Watch them as they grow pick one out t hat shows dominance but not overly aggressive. And has the color pattern you like.
