How many wine makers do we have here?

My Gma who tried her best to make pennies squeak used bread yeast and her homemade wine was

One of the reasons I've not thought about making any until now I thought that was how "homemade" wine was suppose to taste.

You poor thing... No one should drink it it's dangerous can make you ill. It creates different chemicals when it grows as its a living bactiria or it got an infection, then god only knows what other things can grow :s

But If u want to experiment :) lol it's good practice but a waste of products

I have experimented with it and it was DELICIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drool

really? I'm not bias i have made wine with it before and it can be used if its fresh enough I'm guessing
but you need to be careful with bread yeast and making wine, cause it can grow some dangerous things..

i made some Ribenna [like vimto] wine once lol i used 1 ltr of juice cordial and 1kg sugar and bread yeast, took weeks to finish fermenting..

it was ok when finished look nice.. i couldn't of drank more than a mouthful of it not my thing, but I'm guessing the guys when i went filming didn't complain..

it tasted clean.. but just a little..... yeasty?

not like the special stuff at all. don't think it were any where Near 2% vol but when i make any wine now i use nice yeast for specific jobs,
that's what its bread for lol {no pun intended}

yeast eat sugar, burps co2, and poops Alcohol but Alcohol kills yeast when it gets to a high of a concentration,
normally around 9-11% it starts killing it off... that's if its a genuine brewing yeast & bread yeast wont get past 3% that's if your super lucky.

but you can also get super tolerant yeast that can hold out to 21%+ if feed enough nutriants..

I am always open to try new things, so I will try the wine yeast. I found a store that sells it. I guess I will use the same amount that I have always used.

I want to start a batch of strawberry wine this weekend. I found a local farmer that sells strawberries and I will get 1 flat for $20.00 and make some strawberry wine. I will use the wine yeast this time. :)

I wonder what was used in biblical times when wine was made. I don't think they had "wine yeast" huh? They probably use bread yeast right?
