How many wine makers do we have here?

My fig wine is coming along ok but not fermenting at the rate that it should. I will have to add more yeast and room to a warmer room. I'm not sure about this wine.

What is everyone else making?

Sometimes it's not lack of yeast, but lack of nutrients in the must. I ALWAYS add some nutrients to non-grape wines just to ensure they ferment well. You could try aerating it, (which helps the yeast to grow aerobically) and then seeing what happens. It would stop fermenting for a day or two, but then could go wild (it's what I did once and wow, what a ferment!). Fig wine is really delicious so don't give up yet!

I add more yeast and moved it to a warmer room. Shortly after, I heard the fizzling going on . Checked on it this morning and it looks like we are back on track. :)

start with extract (not whole grain). that way, you dont need allot of extra equipment . any home brew shop will sell it to you. see if you like the hobby before spending a bunch of money.

Well, beer is more exacting to do it properly - watching temps and timing etc. Plus, since it's carbonated, there's always the worry about exploding bottles. I make sprakling fruit wines on occasion, and am always concerned about the fizz - never had one explode yet but. . .!

Anyway, SIL sent us a beer kit for Christmas, so will be trying that out as soon as we find some time. Summer is too busy here.

Besides, there's something so refreshing about a fruit wine with perrier and a cube of ice on a summer afternoon/evening

I agree about refreshing fruit wine. I just got back from our local grocery store. They had grapes on sale for $1.00. Guess what I will be starting tonight!!!!!!!! :weee
