How meat birds have changed you

You son noticed what many of us have, that "your" eggs taste better! I have a customer that only buys them because her son likes them so much. Well, she'd likely buy them anyway but that is her main reason.

I used to be very against people who would even think about killing an animal. Of course, I also ate meat - go figure! We tried some Cornish X last spring and I tried to be very hands-off with them because I thought it was barbaric. It turned out that I was the one that had to take them to the butcher. I survived that experience and even ate the meat. I've since raised another batch and also learned how to butcher!

This has helped me realize quite a few truths about life that I won't go into here.

I've been struggling buying beef from the store because I have a good idea how those animals probably lived and died. My chickens lived a happy life with singing (LOL), fresh air, and room to roam. They were treated humanely right through the end. Instead of refusing to acknowledge that my meat used to be alive, I can accept that and be ok with it.
