How much could 5 or 6 baby chicks smell in a brooder? Help!

For chicks inside the dust bothers me much more than the smell.
Don't use shavings the first few days.
For just a few chicks I buy a roll of paper towels and put a double layer down and when it gets soiled I roll it up and toss it and put down fresh, usually about 3 times a day.
After they know what food is you can put them on shavings.
Also be careful with a heat lamp in a small container, it can get way too hot. I would rather them be a little on the cool side. If they huddle together move the heat closer.

I have lavender orpingtons - and had 5 in a brooder inside our living room with 3 silkies I hatched out. The dust layer they produce is alot - so the dust may bother your mom more then the smell. You can control the smell by changing the litter out - but the dust is another story - all you can do is manage it by dusting often. If you have a garage or shed you could run an extension cord and but them in a tub brooder with a heat lamp.

I always use a deep layer of litter in the chick brooder, adding on top as necessary, so I do not have a smell.

But . . . the DUST!

Now THAT'S another story!

Be care where you keep them if you do not like boatloads of DUST!

I am currently doing 25 chicks and 1 duckling(sad story on him) in the basement. There has been no smell and it has been 5-6 weeks and no bedding change. Now they are doing the day trips outside(out till dark). But as was mentioned watch the dust.

Thanks guys! Looks like im getting a few eggs! Early birthday present lol! Cant wait to have some fuzzy butts!
