How much did your coop cost?

Quote:
Sure as long as you provide materials, my flight down, meals and lodging (and maybe a cowboys ticket since I would be so close)......seriously, if only you lived closer I probably would build it for ya.

Was that a donated building and the rehab was only $242.18? Cause there is WAY more than a couple hundred dollars worth of materials there.

Very beautiful coop by the way. Love all the windows.

The last coop we built cost us around $700.00 Its 12feetX22feet. It was an old metal frame from a carport. my son turned it into a chicken coop southern style. It is divided into three complete coops each with a 15 x 7 x7 foot run attached. We got over 70% of the materials donated and used recycled shingles. The metal around the sides is roofing metal. it is dug down 2 feet as is the fence on the runs. We think he did a very good job.

So far, nothing but gas to drive the few blocks for our free 10' x 7' metal shed. Igloo doghouse and a roll of chicken wire from freecycle.

thanks, what it was, is we got almost all the materials for free, we tore down a 2 car garage and used those materials to build it. If you look at the link in our signature line that is a thread that shows the garage we tore down.
Most the windows we had to build out of glass shelves.

We re-used a 3-stall horse barn that had an open side. The barn is 35' x 14'. Run is 50' x 20' We have 31 hens now.

Barn had a wall build and some holes patched. Added a door with some asphalt and concrete about 2' deep around the inside perimeter. Got 2 new windows off of e-bay for $10.00

Ran horse field fence (2"x4" openings) at 6' high for the run with 10' wooden posts. Chicken wire ran at 2' around the inside of the run to keep the bird's heads in the run. Electric fence (ran off a deep cycle battery) is ran a 6", 12" and 18" from the ground and 12" from the top on the outside of the run. Fence puts out at least 5000 volts. 2 "x 2" bird netting on the run roof.

About $1000.

recently built my coop from scraps lying around and tearing down a couple of old lean-to's. It's approx. 6x4 with a sloped roof approx. 5ft tall. Saved on plywood by using large pieces of charcoal-tinted plexi i had available. Considering most of the materials are on their third tour of duty and my novice carpentry skills, I can't say it's unsightly.

The only investments in my chicken enterprise to date has been feed, bedding, chicks and time spent pulling nails.

As a first time chicken keeper, I've found this forum to be an essential resource with a wealth of information greater than any other on the web. Thanks.
