How much do you pay for feed??

It's at least a half hour to the place that carries Kalmbach. But it's at least 20 minutes to TSC too. Yeah, I'm "way out there."

I like the place I get Kalmbach. It's a family owned farm. I can make it be on my way home from errands into Grand Rapids, so that's what I do. I try to make every trip to anywhere do double or triple duty for errands.

That's the thing about living way out in the country. You forgot something at the store? Tough. Get it next time you go. Do a better inventory and make a list so you won't forget. Are you listening, hubby....? :)
And you have plenty of extras on hand!

I’m paying a little more through Chewy for flock
raiser because TSC has become unreliable here. It’s not a far drive, but traffic is a pain between here and there and most of the time they don’t have what I need. I’m not wasting my time or fuel any more.
Also, the last two 50# bags of Layena pellets I got from TSC were moldy. They replaced them, but seriously?

I buy at our local MFA (Missouri Farmers Association) Agri store and pay between 13 and 15 dollars per 50# bag depending on what I buy.

A local Amish ran feed store sells Archer Daniels MIdland (ADM) feed and it runs about 3 dollars higher per 50# bag.

Both manufacture their feed from locally grown grains.

I have been paying $26.99 for flock raiser at TSC and they eat so much feed it gets expensive. Is this alot for feed? How much do you pay?
TIA!
I pay very close to that..I do however cut back feed in summer and recycle? So my girls get the tall kitty litter pans to feed in..so they can't scratch it all over..I use three spaced WAY apart, so the lesser down the order still eats..when locking up..I dump all that's left in a bucket..it goes to ducks the next mornin. This methods has saved a lot. Before I got ducks I would mixed coconut oil and lard with the extra and make suet cakes to feed in winter..which I still do just not to the extent I used too...I grow sunflowers, dandelions, basils, mint and pursulane...mainly weeds to most...for supplementation. I just have a dedicated weed patch for the poultry! I do "harvest" so none goes to waste. I also hand sow oats, and buckwheat as well as corn..no more than 20 percent total goes into the feed. Iowa did an interesting study on feeding oats corn and layer pellets ..there was no significant difference in weight gains or laying so I been doing that...I'll try to find the link and post for the Iowa study..
