Wow... I find myself insanely jealous of all of y'all.

Now I'll preface with... We're really weird about food in general... (tagline: we eat food; not science projects) I'm that crazy, old-fashioned, bread baking, pasta making, veggie growing, crunchy mom they warned you about. 😉

I use the same standards I would buying food for our family when buying food for the chickens. "You are what your food eats" and all... If it isn't non-GMO, no corn, no soy, it doesn't meet muster. But with so many "boxes to check", I can't find all that an all flock. I have to hope that my rooster is more tolerant of the calcium. Time will tell, and I'll switch in a heartbeat if I can find it in an all flock.

We pay $40 for a 40 lb bag of Scratch & Peck layer feed from the local feed store. I'm able to hit that one on the way up to the farm for our groceries every week, and I've looked at every Tractor Supply within a 30 mi radius of my house, and none of them even have something that checks all those boxes.

I supplement with healthy scratch grains, soldier fly larvae, kitchen scraps, meat rabbit cast offs, and regular garden trimmings of anything that gets buggy. The ladies just got the run of the squash bed as I cleaned that up for the season, and they'll get the tomato bed in a few weeks. That makes for some happy chickens. They stalked me anytime I touch my garden apron. 😆

I just can't bring myself to feed them something I don't consider food. 😥

If anyone is curious about this feed, I'll attach pictures, but it sounds like we're paying dern near double the average.

"Average" isn't organic feed though.

Your store is marking up the price a bit compared to feed stores in my area (I haven't found a single one that doesn't sell S&P) but if you're not in the Pacific NW, it might be because of shipping costs to your store location.

That's quite possible... We're in PA around 20 miles north and west of Philadelphia...

Total side note, but our rooster man just came over and crowed right in ear as I'm writing this... So Arslan says hi.
