How much do you pay for feed??

Good idea, the time in traffic and possibly having to come back is difficult!
It’s a hassle to get to TSC mostly because of traffic, it’s near a major freeway interchange, so I started to order curbside and not make the trip if it was unnecessary. Then the feed wasn’t available for a month and I was getting low so switched. It’s really nice to just get it delivered and not have to make that trip!

The last I bought was $22.99 for 40lbs of Nutrena All Flock pellets.
When I have chicks I get Purina Flock Raiser 50lbs at 26.99 because they carry it in crumble. I have fed chick starter unmedicated $24.49 for 50lbs to everyone if that was all I could get. The hardest problem for me is getting fresh feed. They do not rotate the stock. :(

I have several feed mills within driving distance that carry feed for around $15, but it is ground so fine with some small grain mixed in. My birds pick through it and throw it around a lot trying to find the bits. I end up with too much dust they won't eat.

I've been buying in bulk from a local Mill. $31 (there is some change too but I forgot the exact amount) for 100lb of 24% grower. It's slightly cheaper, around $27/28 per 100, for the layer.

This is mash feed which has been hit or miss with past birds. Because this is a new flock the birds don't know any different. There is little, if any, waste which has been wonderful. Not the case with past girls who made a huge mess or outright refused to eat it.

Buying in bulk is surprisingly easy. They'll load it up in whatever vessels you bring/want and charge by the lb for what you get. You don't need to buy massive amounts to get this discount. I'll be getting some 55 gallon drums full (250-300#) this week to over winter my grow outs.

the #25 bag I just bought was a shade under $10, the #50 bag I had before that was $15.
Tucker Milling Chick starter.
So far the quality is good (I have not read the label) the service is nice (the staff carries it to my car) and it is Cheaper than TSC, plus a local store.
I try to avoid Purina, and have heard mixed to bad reviews on the TSC brand.

If you get desperate, try it as a wet mash. Avoids a lot of those problems - but if it doesn't meet the birds nutritional needs, that doesn't fix anything that matters. If it is (comparatively) good feed, the addition of some water to make an oatmeal like consistency might save you a few bucks.

I've used Tucker Milling's 18% when I had an egg buyer willing to pay a non GMO premium. I wasn't thrilled by it, but it wasn't clearly sub par, either. Just sort of somewhat more expensive "meh". I was paying an extra $3/50# at the time, compared to (almost certainly GMO) Harrel Milling at much higher protein. Something to keep in mind if your Tucker is unavailable or aged.

Harrell is out of Hartford, AL and should be available thru at least half the State.

Good info. TSC is 5 min from my house, the feed store on the way to town, so both are convenient (although the feed store is across the road from 'Ollie's' which can turn the feed run into an expensive adventure!) I am sure the feed store can substitute something comparable. If not I swing by TSC on the way home and grab a bag of theirs (and hope it's not moldy I guess)

I hear you, mine are the same, I've stopped trying to get them to eat mash, I also tried to wet it, not a chance in h.ll were my chickens going to touch that stuff :he I only tossed away bagsful of the expensive stuff.
