how much do you sell eggs for?

I sell to some local markets for $1.50 a doz and friends $2.00 a doz. I save any smaller eggs for us. I'm planning on getting more birds when I build my new coop. The demand is more than my supply.

We were giving away our eggs to friends of my wife's and mom. They
all wanted to pay us. Finally we took $2 a dozen. We never ask but
everyone wants to pay us. When it comes to feed buying day that $2
makes a BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!

My supermarket sells their free range eggs for just over 4 dollars a dozen. I believe people at the farmers markets here sell for almost that much too.

yep - all of the egg money goes into a can in the hatchery room, and when it comes time to buy chicken food, I use that first - and sometimes it helps pay for the donkey food, too.

eta - when I tried to give the eggs to neighbors and such, no one wanted them. Now that I charge a little for them - I can't get enough eggs to sell to everyone that wants them -- go figure.

We'll be getting 6 more chicks this spring because we can't make eggs fast enough! We started with 6 RIR hens this year and I started at $1/dozen. But almost everyone gives me at least $2/doz. And I can't keep up with the orders. My teenage daughter printed up payment envelopes for the regular customers with pictures of chickens, nutritional statistics of eggs, and a place for the customer's name. When we leave the eggs for someone at work in the fridge I put the envelope in their mailbox at work. They return the payment envelope to me in my mailbox as well. For the neighbors we leave the eggs and the envelope on their porch, they return the envelope to a basket hanging on our front porch. Everyone knows that they don't get back on the egg list until they return the envelope.

We have a few families that use lots of eggs so for them I give 18 eggs at $3. And a few of the neighbors around here have been brainwashed by the newly-opened Whole Foods store organic craze...they give us $4-5 per dozen...nuts! When I mentioned getting more chicks for next year's aying they all told me to be sure to get chickens that lay colored eggs "since they are so much more nutritious!" Well, ok...

Very helpful thread! Our girls are going to be laying any day and while e eat a lot of eggs, I dont think we can eat all that they will lay. i was wondering what we should price our eggs at.

Well it must really depend on what area you live in, because I bought farm fresh eggs here for $5.75 a dozen-15 to 20 dozen per month (we do a lot of baking) They are the first thing to sell out in the morning at the farmer's market in the summer. You have to be there when the bell gongs to signal opening time, or you don't get any at all. All sell for $5.00 to $6.00/doz. Organic omega 3 eggs in the grocery store are over $5.00/doz.

I sure hope to be able to recoup some of the expense of the feed when our hens produce enough eggs to do so. Right now our older hens are producing just barely enough to see us through without buying from the store, and we really could use a few more per day. Some of the pullets just started laying last week, and I already have a list of people who really want to buy them from me. Neighbors and relatives, and we are hoping to have a booth at the farmer's market this summer with homemade bread, etc. as well.

Can't wait!! and good luck!!
