HOw much for permits in your city? $50 here, seems high to me?

mines free ,we live in a little ruel town ,theres less than 900 people here so it pretty quite and were alowed all the chickens we want,!!

where i live ya have to have a poultry permit never heard of a dog or cat permit. it is free, ya go before the town council to meetings and ask for permission and you have to abide by stanards to get approved.

the local board of health has to approve and inspect once a year, no roos, has to be more than 40ft from a dwelling and 20ft from a main road and also in a wooded area so they don't bother others or seeable which is garbage, kept healthy and disease free. also up to 12 hens for layer or meet production only and caged at all times. they are not allowed to be in basements or any other part of a building at any time. violations can cause ur permit to be pulled at any time, can be pulled for any reason and $6oo fines if broken for each offence plus court costs and possible jail time if late on payments.

although i have my permit my new flock is not here i raise them at a friends house just 3 min from here outside of town. i went through all that work to get it for nothing and ended up selling my last flock. this town is corupt and so are most the people in it and harrass ya even if they have to make things up. where i have them now i can have as many as i want and roos and i see them everyday and we take them out and hold them and play with them where as here we could not. it stinks to loose ur babies and start again but the new ones can be loved and enjoyed more and the girls can have men!!

We don't have permits here for anything. The dog license was abolished in the 80's, and when we rang up Environmental Health to check about the legalities, all we got was a fairly vague answer (having been passed to someone who might know about three times) which went something along the lines of "Erm . . . not too many . . . no more than about 6 or 10, and no cockerels, and no letting them stray, and keep them fairly clean."

Environmental Health only get involved if there is a persistant noise nuisance (dogs barking etc) or if there is a public health hazard - but they don't know / don't care about our asbestos garage, so that's alright.
