How much is too much?

For a long time I've been feeding my hens cracked corn (the type you buy for bird feeders), as a daily treat. I regret to say I've been giving them close to two handfuls a day (big mistake), and now my chickens are starting to look tubby....so I know I need to really cut back on it. But, how much cracked corn is too much? I usually scatter it around the coop/run to give them some foraging fun. Is there a better, less protein, less fatty option? They do get table scraps once in a while, so its not like the cracked corn is their only treat.

Advice would be much appreciated.

And thank you in advance!

How many hens are sharing this two handfuls of corn? twenty or two? It makes a difference. But produce is a better treat 'cause it's lower in fat & calories. If you only have a couple of birds a pot or two of greens (even regular yard grass) placed in the pen and rotated out to recover is a fun, inexpensive and natural treat.
