How much meat does your family consume?

Now you've peaked my interest even more for Food Inc. Been waiting for it for 3 months on the library queue, and finally I think it will be my turn to check it out very soon. Looking forward to seeing that movie.

We eat mostly beans & fish. Approximately, 1 pound flesh per week. As the hens are increasing laying, we are eating more eggs.

For the 5 of us (oldest went away for college)

Weekly:
1.5 lbs chicken
1.5 lbs smoked turkey (for DH's lunch)
2 lbs fish (salmon/ trout / tilapia /tuna)

Pork- never
Beef- rare special occasions

When we lived in Cleveland we were completely pescatarian. Since moving here- there just isn't a decent supply of good fish. (No- fried catfish from polluted rivers is NOT good fish) We used to have sushi a few times a week. Oh I miss it!!!!

You might want to research that. I wouldn't make that assumption about fish or shrimp unless I caught them myself, since most of it is factory farmed now days. The animals I raise and kill "needlessly" likely ate a better diet and lived a better life while using fewer of the earth's resources than they did.

we grow probably 90% - 95% of the meat we eat - the only exception is when we get lunch meat from the deli counter or pepperoni. but now that we have Ruhlman's book on how to make that....

last year we ate our way thru 2 pigs, 15 chickens, several turkeys, a lamb, and beef from the neighbors.

as a former Left Coaster living in the midwest there is no way i'm eating the seafood here. very snobbish that way....

We only eat grass fed organic beef, organic pastured chickens, local pork (soon to be from our own little happy pastured piggy), grass fed cow butter, local pastured cows RAW milk and lots of cheese. I also occasionally buy bison b/c they can't be contained in CAFOS.

I can't begin to fathom how to add it all up, but we eat a steady amount. We also eat everything from my garden when the season and from our orchard. Lots of veggies, fruits and happily raised meats.

Food Inc. was a great movie, now we should all go see FRESH.

Diesel and I eat some form of meat every night for dinner. He ususaly sticks to bison and venison. But I guess I've never calculated how much...

We eat a lot of chicken, fish, pork, and beef. Not really sure of the amounts but it's a lot. I do know that I go through 7-10 deer each year.

To all of you vegetarians out there you have my deepest sympathy.
