How much on average does it cost

When I had to put my husky to sleep ~70 lbs it was about $60.

I am so sorry you have to make that choice.

*HUGS* It'll be okay.

We put down our Husky puppy who was only 4 months old about 3 months ago and it cost about $40 for the actual euth and another $80 for the cremation and return of remains.
She only weighed about 15 pounds though, poor thing

:aww Good luck hun.

Sorry you're going through this. It sounds like your poor dog cannot be trusted anymore, which makes this a smart decision. I think most vets charge by weight, and the largest part of the expense is if you want to pay for cremation and return. Yucky to think about, but vets have rules about disposal of remains, and that is added onto what you pay, which is where the weight issue comes in.

Your dog is probably in pain, and confused; and that makes it act out. Good luck with what you choose.

We had to have a dog put down a few years ago due to canine cognitive dysfunction (doggie alzheimers). It was a little easier maybe because he was 14, but at the same time he was physically healthy for his age and came from a line of very long-lived dogs. However, his mind was just gone. He was picking fights with our other dog that he had lived with and gotten along with for 8 years. He growled and snapped at us, forgot all about housetraining and would sometimes just stand and bark at a wall. This was a dog who was dubbed "Mr. Congeniality" in obedience class in his younger days. Our vet was very supportive and agreed with our decision. I really don't think he had much quality of life in the end.

My dog (a border as well) is like your dog in some ways. He is very fearful of anyone he knew before an occurence that happened (a girl got in his face and he nipped at her). Now he nips at random people. He actually bit my friend (luckily he only got his jeans). I totally understand what you are going through.

(replying to the original post question)
I don't really know what it would cost, sorry.

So sorry you have to go through this!

Have you tried your local animal shelter? Ours will put down pets for people. Not sure how much they charge. I do know that they let the owners be present if they want to.
