I have learned that if you think you made a mistake, no matter how big, during incubation, there are a ton of people that will try to help you through it and make you feel better!

They are also known as "my BYC support group!"

Honestly although I read some books and talked to several farmers before getting chooks it was not until BYC that I really learned about them. I would say 95% of my knowledge comes from BYC and its members and links that they have posted or experiences they have been through.

I've found quite a bit of useful information here on BYC. I don't always agree with some of the info., but I still use it to help me think through things. The sections I use most often have changed as my chickens have progressed. Flock Management is probably the one I hit most often now.

Everything I know about chickens is from BYC. I also started canning because of BYC. DH & I are trying to become more self sufficient with the knowledge and nudging we receive here too.

BYC is a good place for info! I have also found great info from other sites as well.......I don't seem to get many responces on questions though...so I just don't ask many! Good site.

Everything!!! Feeding, treats, housing, incubating, hatching, caring, illnesses, treatments, cures, preventions, bedding, predators, predator proofing, sympathy, laughs, I'm sure there's more, but you get the pic......everything!!!

I've found BYC to be a great support site. It makes you realize that you aren't the only one trying to figure out a particular problem. You'll receive advice and opinions and you should analyse all that you have read and then do what seems logical. Hopefully this serves to inspire you to search other sources and become better informed.

The number of posts a person has under their name has no bearing on the accuracy or value of their advice or opinion. If you question that statement you only need look at the number I have acrured.

I've been keeping chickens for a long time so by the time I got here I had quite a bit of practical experience and book learning on the subject of poultry. I like polling people on BYC for thier opinions, and every once in a while everyone has a problem they havn't seen before. I like to be able to ask other people's opinion on something when I am not certain about what I should do, just in case they have come up with a better way of dealing with a problem. The advice on genetics and breeding is helpful. I really use this site more for networking and finding friends and sources for certain breeds and hatching eggs than anything else.
