How much water

Possibly they are bored of the nipple water container and probably not getting enough water. I use a large water font or actually a rubber livestock bowl for water up on a couple of bricks.
Good idea, I’ve got a spare grain dish we use for the horses, only about 4” tall, I can dig a cinder block into the ground to get the right height, I’ll try that, I agree I don’t think their getting enough water although we had them for 6 weeks and they all seem perfectly fine to me

Just an update;
Added the grain dish full of water yesterday, it took probably 2 hours for them to figure out what it was, but 1 by 1 they started to drink from it, but still also using the 5 gal pail, so I’m going to keep both in the run so to give them options,

If they've had the nipple waterer for 6 weeks then they're getting enough water. I do put out extra water when it gets hot, just to make sure they stay hydrated and to let them cool off a little in it.

just wondering how much water chickens should drink per day, I have 12 birds and am using a 5 gallon pail with 5 horizontal nipples near the bottom of it, it takes a week for them to go thru the 5 gal. I’ve read that the normal is .5 of a litre, that would equal 6 litres per day but I am not going near that much, what are the thoughts out there on this ?

I have 6 white leghorn chickens that started laying a few weeks ago. I set out fresh water every morning, about 1/2 gallon and they only drink about half of it every day. It is hot here in the 90's.

Assuming I had 12 chickens they would drink about 1/2 gallon of water every day and in a weeks time that would be about 4 gallons of water so I would say your chickens are fine.

I have 32 birds and go thru 3.5 gallons a day ......are your birds mature or still young?

I do have auto waterers outside the coops but the younger birds do drink a lot but it's been in the 90's here. I have these in their pens. It holds 6.5 gallons of water. They also make a 3.5 gallon waterer.
