How much would you pay for this coop? *PICS*

A rule of thumb, "Take the cost of materials and then double that cost to figure what labor could cost".


$400 so I'd figure $200 is for labor. $20 an hour for 10 hours of work. I don't see 10 hours of labor in that coop. I don't see $200 of materials in the coop either.

Someone already asked for dimensions. I too am curious of that. By the three nesting boxes I'd guess three feet wide by four feet long.

I built this coop for $200. The great thing about doing yourself is you get to personalize it for you. And running a skill saw is not hard...

I just counted shingles on my 4 ft coop and see the one pictured has an extra tab. Seriously, how big is this? I am out of the norm here and do see $150 to 200 of material. I built one two years ago 4X4 with shingles and cost $140 without the stain and bottom 4x4 plywood I already had.

I think $400 is not even close to the price I would pay for something like that...I could see spending at the very most $150. That just looks like a modified dog house someone stuck legs and nest boxes on.

They want $400 plus delivery.

I will add that I am not a builder. I could build my own, but god knows how it would turn out! I wouldn't be able to add all the little doors and such if I did it myself.

I also placed an ad looking for someone to build me a coop, all the responses would be about $300-$400, PLUS materials, or more!. So that option isn't cheap either.

I really don't want to spend that much on one, but the "prefab ebay coops" are almost that much, and are a lot cheaper...

I'm still up in the air on it!

Price seems high to me, especially if they are going to charge even more to deliver it. BUT, if you like it and it will suit your needs perfectly, if you can't find anything else for less that you like as well, then price is relative. If you do get it, I'd replace that teensy roost they have in there with something more suitable to chicken feet! That looks more like a cockatiel sized perch to me!

Well I did some more searching, and I found a guy who will build me this, which is what I really want. Have to see how much it will be yet, but it'll be way more worth it than the other one!

Have you checked on craigslist i just did and depending on what area you are from there are alot for sale $50.00-1200.00

Looks odd to have 3 nesting boxes in a coop that would be a tight squeeze tor 2 birds....

Believe me, I'm no builder either so, I opted to look for something with good "bones" and purchased a large 6x6x6 doghouse for my first coop (got it off of CL for $75) and, for my second coop, a 4x4x6 shed that I also got off of CL for under $100. I then added my own a"coop"trements - which I tried to recycle and reuse and find for free anything I could to "Pimp my Coop." For instance, pallet boards make for great trim and, let me tell you, you can hide a lot of mistakes (like not so straight holes) with trim. Bonus was that along the way, I've gotten to be pretty darn good with some power tools.

Best of luck in whatever you decide and, even though there was a bit of colorful language going on during both my coop re-dos, I wouldn't have it any other way. It was so much fun adding those personal touches. Had so much fun with the first 2 that 3rd time is a charm and I'm currently working on my 3rd (albeit much smaller) coop.
