How much would you pay for this coop? *PICS*

4 1/2 ft X 12ft
All Free!! Used all reclaimed wood, used fence and bartered hinges!

3-A frame 4ft X 9ft with a 60ft X16ft run... divided into 3 runs..
All Free!! Again used all reclaimed material.

As you can see in the back, I collect used pallets, drums, steel and fence. Lots of work and time....but at no cost.

Please tell me where you could get the materials for $50 bucks ...I want to shop there.LOL Price of material are going up as we speak. $425-$475 would be a fair price. I would guess you would have 10-12 hours in labor alone with cutting, assembly and paint. Lets not forget material pick-up(delivery) and layout time. (nobody thinks of this) The only way they can make it worth their while is to do pieces for lets say 10 units. Even when you are skilled at this, the one -ofs take a bit longer to construct. I built my own coop from recycled material on craigslist and the wire cloth and hardware still cost me about $85. My 4' x8' coop took me about 16 hours (layout takes longer when you have only specific material dimensions to work with) and I know what I'm doing. So what is the cost if you dont know how to build it yourself ?? Or go buy some cheap Chinese imported piece of junk and say you got a bargain. You will be looking for another one in a year or 2... Whoever built it did a very nice job and put in some effort on detail. Why do people think that if you didn't buy it at the store it should be cheaper??More effort went into this than he is charging. Why do we charge $3.00 a dozen for eggs, when you can go to the store and buy them for $1? Because they are better ..Same for the guy who built those coops. Buy Local !! Support your local people (and their families) and keep the money in your community.

Just as another datapoint to add to the discussion.

This coop (4x4) costs me less than 300.00 in materials:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/small-coop-tutorial

I'm selling them for 500.00 this year. If the customer isn't too far off my normal commute route I deliver for free. For every 30 minutes off my commute route I charge 20 dollars for delivery.

With asphalt shingles, and paint grade trim versus cedar I could probably build it for less than 200.00 in materials, and asphalt shingles would dramatically reduce my labor time.

The coop the OP posted originally? 100-150 tops for a retail price.

Presently 4 hens, 1 Roo.

I have 36 in the brooder, 24 in the incubator (eggs) and 15 more chicks coming April 30th. By the end of the year I should have 30 good layers!

I also have 2 3x3 dog houses, that I obtained for free, which I will be making some breeder coops out of. I already have the fence for too!

Oh ...I love free stuff....

Wow Joe, you don't play around when you start a project. You'll be known as the birdman of Avondale! Awesome!

I already have people wanting eggs and a few wanting some ladies!

Joe

Also....I have a good meal worm farm and a red wiggler farm! LOL After we get the garden completed then cleared of what we want to eat (and feed to the rabbits) I plan on turning the ladies loose in the garden for fun!!

They want $400 plus delivery.

I bet you can find one cheaper than that or a bigger one for $400. I am building my own.... why? Because everyone that I like at all they are is a storage shed just smaller. I saw one that was 4x6 for $2200 and right next to it was a shed for $2000 and that was a 10x10.

IF you want small you can find a dog house that is for a big dog. Ask a handyman or handylady how much would it cost you to cut out a door in the back for easy clean out. IF you want the side parts that open to the nest then ask about that. All that would not be over $50 at all. Look at the Coop part of this site you can find all kind of ways of doing stuff. Even a kids playhouse lol that one is cool.
