How much would you pay for this coop? *PICS*

2 weeks ago I built this from this guys plans off this site , I had to change a few deminsions but bacially followed the direction and It only took me 1 day started at 9 am and this is my end result
cost was some scrap from the back of homedepo the oem board 4 bucks each and I didnt have to cut them ,regular 2x4 at app 2.74 each baught extra 17 total and 2 boxes of screws @7.00
each and of course chicken wire is the most expensive I use hardware cloth so nothing can get in from above or under , it is all reinforced so no one can dig under it , I am going to use it for a nursery
My photos below
Next time I will paint it before I but the wire up .

I built an 4ft x 8ft coop for under $200 which can be seen in my coop album...
that being said I wouldn't pay over $200 for this because it is tiny.
Once again thats $200 in material and your labor was free. Thats still seems cheap for material.
Ok.....Now I want to place an order with you: how much would you charge me?
For $200 bucks you would only be in business until the end of the week. LOL

i was only speaking in the terms of price of materials, for the coop and labor i would still pay no more than $200 + delivery

I still think it's a tiny coop for even 3 chickens - and 3 chickens do not need their own private nesting boxes. I don't like to see coops built by people who don't know about chickens. We paid $250 for the little coop next to our big coop - it's a 4 x 4 special needs coop, no windows. (please don't ask me how much the first coop cost. )

Hey Chickenleg,
To be fair I did check out your pictures. First thing I noticed was you used OSB Board. (You will have some issues down the road with it holding moisture.)
First coop she showed us was made of plywood. Second set was T-11 board or that composite(can't think of the name of that stuff). I know that it sells for about $32 a sheet here.
You will need windows and definitely more ventilation. More Money$$$$$
Your workmanship is good and the coop is a nice layout.
Ok now add some 1x3 's for the corner caps. More Money$$$$
Be fair and price out the same materials on the coop and then tell me what they cost.
I can make one out of cardboard and it would be under $200 bucks.
I guess my point is that yes you can build things cheaper (if you DIY and can) but it also depends on what you are looking for esthetically.

I paid $200 for this coop and that was INCLUDING delivery. It is 4' x 4' and just over 5' tall at the peak.

I did have to buy paint for it and add some ventilation holes under the eaves. And I did build a secure run around it.

The coop is up on legs now and I put some roosting bars out in the run for the girls. You can probably tell these pics are from summer so they are not current. LOL

I guess it depends on where you live and the availability of pre-made chicken coops. Personally, I wouldn't pay $400 + delivery for that coop even if it did cost them $200 in materials + labor to build it. I would look elsewhere, but that's just me.

well i also used a latex based paint for outdoors, which I used on the doghouse I built with my dad almost 10years ago, which holds out moisture and its still working fine.
So if I get 10years + out of this coop then I'm completely satisfied. The coop isn't finished, I still have to install a wind turbine vent on the roof, for the
air circulation to work properly, and I already have 2 plexiglass windows I made but I haven't had time to install them yet. So yes I still have $50 (at most) left to spend.
But I dont see anything wrong with the cheaper materials, as long as you plan everything out first. And if in fact I do need more ventilation after I install a turbine vent,
then ill just cut out a piece out of the top of the sides, add hinges and chicken wire over the opening and open it in the day and close it at night, if that makes sense lol.

I'm just saying if you want an expensive coop you can buy one, but you can make one for cheaper. and you can make one for even cheaper if you choose to, like I did. It just depends on your standards and preferences.

(i just wanted to add, in case you thought theyd be cooped inside the coop all day, the front door will also be open in the daytime so they can go outside into their pen as they please, the door being open will also add alot more airpull into the coop)
