How not to ship eggs

Pine shavings are used all the time to ship eggs with...it works just as good as a bubble wrap......

Not quite sure what you're upset about. I've had them shipped to me wrapped many different ways, including shavings and had cracked ones each way...including bubble wrap. If you only had one cracked one I don't think that's much to be upset about.

I think the shavings are a common way to ship the eggs, both batches I have received were shipped like that, no broken eggs on either though

I was just shocked because the other 2 shipment of eggs I got each was individually bubble wrapped. I ordered 12 and 2 extras were sent. So I wasn't that upset. They were shipped from Oklahoma and went to California.

That is how I ship my eggs. I leave the corners empty as this person did, but I do put something in them to support the carton.

I make sure the carton is packed tightly so that the eggs do not move during shipment and I tape it down tightly also.

I would say they should have been packed a little more tightly though, than what you received.

I have had very good hatch rates from the people I ship to.

If they came from OK, I know who they came from. What varieties did you get? What do you think about the eggshell color?

Hi Jean-

I got mostly blues and 2 whites. I really would have liked more whites. As you know I am waiting for whites and silvers from you. As for the egg color. It was ok, but really want to get some blue eggs, instead of the blue-blue green. Am hoping your egg colors are better. Do you have pics of your eggs your breeders lay?

I have received eggs like that also. When I ship eggs to people, I used to bubble wrap each one and put into an egg carton. However, its difficult to get them into an egg carton that way, so now, I thickly fill the carton with cotton batting, (used to make pillows) put the eggs in and add more batting on top and rubber band the carton closed. I then wrap the carton in bubble wrap and pack it well into a shipping box.

I had one doz of eggs packed in shavings or sawdust and they work well. Nikki (Silkies) does that with her eggs and not one ever broke and hatched well.

I had newspaper packing and its the worse on the list to pack eggs...they broke easily even the box didnt have any dents or bumps on it at all.

Bubble wrap is the best bet I go and still use it that way! Yes its pain in the butt to use but worth the time and effort to have both ends happy.

I have received eggs packed like this also from Janet/hatTrick none broken -You can see how that is done on the HatTrick Site. I do not pack my eggs like that . I have found no matter how well you pack if the po bangs it around enough something will break -

I added the Tri-Fold plastic after getting eggs from Mel/Fluffnstuff and my hatch was excellant- Which for the orginal egg killer was saying something-
I still perfer bubble wrapping each egg cuz they do take such a beating - I got a box sent Fed Ex
end bashed + eggs smashed - everyone grew i only hatched two but there was not a clear - I also just shipped 2 dozen double boxed every egg paper towel and bubble wrapped no mark on the box and two broke. When the po bangs them there is no logic I hope you get a great hatch which is all that matters .

the leathal gene is the double gene - they are a challenge to hatch i always suggest Jody for that breed cuz i have heard her talk about her breeding program what a lot of effort to pair in breeding to get the best off spring result--

the last "shipped eggs" I got were packed just that way,in the wood shavings and they were from a hatchery that sells thousands of eggs,I guess i better call them and straighten them out
