How Often Do Chickens Nap?

I was curious as to what the 'average' or 'normal' napping habits of chickens?

What are the sleeping habits of your hens?
How often do they nap? Once? Twice? More than 5 times a day?

What is considered normal napping habits, and what is considered sick behavior?

Maybe this will help other chicken keepers in the future, for a compiled place to read about sleeping habits.

My chickens always hear me coming so I never see them napping. I did manage to sneak up one the other day, because I thought it was dead. Laying facedown in the coop. Nope, just having a good sleep!

This is funny, I’ve never heard of chickens sleeping during the day, I always thought they only slept at night! Maybe it is different because I free range.

Depends on the chicken and the day. One of my hens loves to plop herself in a nice patch of grass and take a nap in the sun on chilly days. Most of my birds nap in the afternoon. Some sleep sitting and some sleep standing. Typically birds nap with their heads tucked behind their wings but not always.
