anyone know what breed this is and hazzard a guess if its old enough to lay, we were given her? mid april and as of yet no eggs, shes just going through a molt and i wouldnt say shes grown any in the last 4 months, would it be possible she may lay a few in september october time? we're in france

@Selsley it looks like a Toulouse to me. She's adorable! Do you know she's definitely a goose and not a gander? She should be old enough to lay by now. If she's molting, she probably is past the point of laying for the year but she may possibly lay in the fall.

@Dootadoo yep i'm sure now, i sexed her a few hrs ago, and it was much easier then i expected,

i sat in the garden on the floor and started messing with the waterer, of course this got her interest and she came over to look, i quickly put my arm round her and held her firm then quickly turned her over so she was across my knee on her back with her neck under my left arm, there was a bit of struggle but not as much as i expected (i picked her up once and she got her wing free and clouted me under the chin, that hurt lol.) after a bit of kicking her legs, she calmed and i went in search of her vent, since i had her on my knee and held under my left arm, i was able to hold her down using my forearms leaving both hands free, after a bit of stroking of her nether regions i found a dirty spot, obviously a bit of pooh, the vent. at this point i put three fingers above the vent and 3 fingers of the other hand below the vent, with a gentle but firm bit of stroking away from the vent in both directions (toward head and tail) and a bit of gentle pressure east and west with my thumbs the vent opened, the female has a round spot, where the male has a definate penis i think these images are from younger geese

an older gander im guessing

We acquired a rescued Toulouse goose in July of this past summer. She was setting on eggs when we got her Out from under an abandoned trailer house. Ibtooo her eggs but she refused to set on them after the move to one r farm. She went through a good molt and on September 1st, we found an egg laid by her!!! She has been laying eggs ever since! It is now November 15th!! We are collecting the eggs because we do not need any more geese. We have 3. A Chinese male who is now extremely protective of her and a buff African female. We don't know what to do with all these eggs!! We have cooked them for the chickens and dogs and even tried a couple for ourselves. How long will a Toulouse goose lay eggs? She has never gone broody I guess since we are collecting the eggs. We have seen the male trying to breed her so not sure if eggs are fertile. Male is only 5 months old! We do not want any goslings as 3 geese is enough for us.

Everyone seems to be confused this year laying when they aren't suppose to be most geese don't start breeding or laying till late winter into late spring. So it's hard to say How long she will lay. They sure are tasty. I have a few friends who will eat them too. She maybe getting close to the end since she has been laying since sept 1.Just keep taking them and she won't go broody.

Thank you so much for replying! Any idea if the 5 month old male could be able to fertilize the eggs at his age? He is definitely trying!

You know I am not sure I didn't even see my young gander mating till he was around 9 months old he didn't even try but that may have been because I have an older gander too. Lets see if @Iain Utah
or
@jchny2000 Knows the answer to that.
