How often do you change pool water?

I had 9 ducks and 2 kiddie pools. Changed every day and it was still smelly, muddy, and gross. Made great water for the flower bed, though.

We re-homed the ducks recently, and I’m loving not having to deal with the pools anymore!

Reality, sigh. Sometimes it bites! It's hard to appreciate the work involved until you have those cute, fuzzy creatures. But ultimately, they have to fit into your life or go.

I have a 50 gallon pond. I never change the water. I do have to add 10 gallons or so a day because they splash it out.
But I have almost a 200 gallons filter system running 24 hours a day.
I clean the filter cloth once or twice a day because I want super clear water for them
Interesting. Is this a store-bought filter system? Or perhaps something you made that diverts the water and filters it? Maybe a potential article with pictures here...!

Indeed. Especially when you have a spouse that loves cute fuzzies, but hands off the projects when they feather out!

I’ve been threatening to either block Craigslist or bring the WiFi router to work with me!

I have a pair of American Buff Geese and one of the larger plastic kiddie pools. I usually change their water in the pool once or twice a week depending on how dirty it is. Thankfully they don't make a mess the way ducks do. lol

I would love to see @Steven Bussell's filter system too. Having studied koi pond filtration wonders if this filter gets the poops out of the water column.

Not until it looks scummy or too dirty to see the bottom. I have to bail it out by hand. It's a time-consuming process and hard on the back, so I do it as little as possible. Besides, they have smaller bowls they swim in anyway, even if I do keep it clean. Brat ducks.
Hello Banty chooks u can use a small hose 10/12+ feet or more to empty your pool. Put one end of the hose into the pool and the other end layed straight out on the ground. The end on the ground has to be lower then the end in the pool. Pick up the end of the hose on the ground and Feed a gallon or 2 of water down the hose then place the hose back on the ground it should start flowing out. It will take awhile to empty. It takes my large kids pool about a half hour. If the gallon jugs don’t start to drain it attach the hose end on the ground to your outside faucet turn it on until u see it the water bubbling in the pool then shut off the faucet and lay the hose back down on the ground that should work. It works for me every time. Good luck
