How old do roosters start crowing?

It's an individual thing and I think the answers are all across the board. Mine have never crowed before 16 weeks or so, but I know others have had them test their vocal cords before they're even out of the brooder.

Do they sound like other chickens of the same age until they crow? My rooster sounds just like the EE hen who is the same age.

Ok, lets sound dumb here...My babies are all now 23wks going on 24. My leghorns all 3 started crowing at about 16wks...Im sooo new into chickens, infact when we got these all 17 of them..they were 3days old I think. so if you have read another post I put up....

I thought I had only 3 roos...come to find out one day my Pa came to visit and I was showing off my babies....long story after back and forth me saying he was wrong, I have 4 more roos!!!

I never noticed the combs on the others, and THEY NEVER HAVE CROWED not even to this day!!!! one just did yesterday for the first time. And they are HUGE!!!! I want to say they are Americaunas? but Im not sure.

So they are now going on 24wks and one of them just crowed for the very first time!!!! He sounds like he has been a heavy smoker for yrs..deep crow.

Why arent my others crowing? The 3 leghorns always do...but not the others we found otu werent hens. NOW HOW DUMB IS THAT, WE DIDNT KNOW...."BUT"...in my best added item...to my defense Im new to chickens as of 24wks...never cared for them, or had them...now IM IN LOVE...CHICKEN THIS/THAT..honey said one day my god honey!!! take a breath when you talk about your kids!!!! (chickens)

I call ma and its chicken chicken chicken...I come home and its chicken chicken chicken...

My Cuckoo Marans rooster (from McMurray Hatchery) crowed on the day he turned 11 weeks old.

i had a golden laced wyandotte rooster and he started croweing at 6 weeks old.

I'm beginning to think I don't have a single roo none crowing at 24 weeks. getting 8-9 eggs for the past week out of the 10 that are old enough to lay.

I've had (since starting out last Mar.) 8 roosters and they all started crowing between 12 and 14 weeks. Buff Orpington, Cuckoo Marans, and 2 that were mixes.

My rooster is at 14 weeks and hasn't crowed. I'm wondering if it's because he doesn't know what sound he's supposed to make. We have a bunch of ducks in our trees that make noises and I heard him once trying to imitate them.

Reminds me of a puppy that I had who never barked until we took him to a friend's house who had some dogs barking in the neighborhood...it was funny listening to him try to learn how to bark by listening to the others.

Does it count as crowing if one of my young boys sounds like a cat in water? He started at 3 weeks and sounds the same todate.
