How old does a Tom turkey have to be to breed? I was just told 2 years and that seems rather a long time, esp. when a rooster is ready at 6 months.

mine will be a year old in late spring, and he has successfully breed a hen

Did you hatch the eggs? I was told a tom will cover a hen his first year but only successfully fertilize the eggs his second.

A Tom will breed hens his first spring assuming he was hatch last spring/summer. He will be plenty fertile.

My Tom was an August hatch. He's strutting, but I haven't seen mounting yet. Can I expect him to perform this spring?

I bought my turkeys in July on the 3rd I believe. And they were 16 days old. Right not his beard is like maybe half an inch long to and inch, and he struts and just now started to drum which is really cool. I haven't seem any mounting or anything like that. My hens are the same age. So the middle of June is when they were hatch which makes them 8 months old right now actually. So should I start to see something this year. I am also getting older Turkeys they are suppose to be 2 years old, if we move them now will they still lay this year?
