My first chickens were packing peanuts that came with an order of ducklings that I had gotten at our old house... 12 BIG roosters

They were awesome! Best guard chickens you could've wanted. They would chase strangers off the property

, but I could walk over and pick them up! I loved those boys, but they started roosting on the trucks so they needed a new home

We now have a nice flock with a couple roos, and a bunch of hens

My dad always had chickens around, but my very own chicken was one that I found left behind in a nest box..he was cold and not very lively...I took him in my room, wrapped him in a warm towel and about an hour later he came following me thru the house..His name was Tweetie

I'm the one vote in the 60s. 63 when the chicks hatched...
My uncle had chickens and I helped take care of them when I was little. I started thinking about a backyard flock last year. Did some research and found this website and was hooked. I got a bator for our 40th wedding anniversary in April. Hatched 5 chicks, 2 roos and 3 pullets. The roos were rehomed and since there's room in the coop, I am now thinking of hatching again.
