When I got my baby chicks one turned out to be a rooster, sad to be him b/c we have a few other baby roosters and cant keep em all, At what age can/should we cull them ??? He is a barred rock they are ok for meat right ??

Barred rocks are all my friend gets for meat birds...she said they are the tastiest lol. She culls hers about 10-15 weeks of age...depending on their size. Sometimes before if you want more tender meat. She loves the younger birds but you don't get near the meat off of them unless you wait a bit.

I culled roosters last weekend. Four br's and one partridge cochin roo. They were causing so much chaos amongst the other chickens. They were about 20 weeks old, so I figure they will be good for stew. I skinned them, as opposed to plucking them. Never again!! To me, it was harder and the meat didn't look as good. Good luck.

The hubby and I have a baby due in feb, dont need advise on "that deed"

I processed a couple of 14-week-old barred rocks recently. They were phenomenally good oven-fried. Small, but tender and full of flavor.
