My pekin is laying eggs with only the membrane. I went to make an appointmen for her but the exotic vets at the clinic I take my girls to are out of town until sometime next week. Will waiting that long hurt her or should I try and find another vet? (Note I already have to drive 3 hours but I'm willing to drive farther if this is something serious.)

She is free range, has access to oyster shell that's beside her water, and is on layer feed. I've been adding calcium to her food but the calcium just shows up on the membrane. Assuming that's what is happening. And after adding the calcium she laid 2 shell less yesterday and 3 the day before.
Thank you for any advice and if I should try and find another vet before next week.

2 in one day and 3 another day?? That’s not normal. Has she ever laid good eggs or is she just starting to lay? Are those her first eggs?

I’ve never gotten a shell-less egg from a duck, and only an occasional shell-less chicken egg, and those were always brand new layers and were never any issues. But if it’s lots of eggs, that could indicate a problem.

Same here. She was born August of last year.
I've never raised ducks so I rely heavily on what I read on here and what I can find online.
Could her body be trying to stop laying for fall/winter?
I also have a mallard that hatched the same day. She's getting along just fine other than being a little heathen. Lol.

Oops, didn't refresh to see everyone else's replies. Just the two and no other signs of problems. She has developed black spots on her nose which I've read is from needing calcium. But other than that she looks and acts fine. She started laying beginning of the year with no problems. The shell less eggs is recent.

have the molted already? or just getting ready to? hard to know with out a location

Does molted mean they lose all their feathers or just more than usual? She is dropping a good bit when cleaning or when she swims. But it's hard to determine how much because the mallard steals them for her nest.
Also, I'm from North Central WV.

yeah that is when they loose and replace their feathers yearly before the cold kicks in.
