Lots of shotgun hunters are...because they aim for the whole deer and not the vital spot for a heart/lung shot.I hope they are lousy shots![]()
Good point. I can’t really understand the satisfaction of shotgun stuff for anything but birds (and that’s dubious, to me) and vermin controlLots of shotgun hunters are...because they aim for the whole deer and not the vital spot for a heart/lung shot.
Hope he makes through season. How long is the season?

Some people shouldn't be hunting period, whether shotgun, rifle or bow...I've seen some horrifically wounded animals shot by peeps that just "shot" at the animal. They had no business being out in the field.Through mid January - deer population is so high the season seems endless.
And therein lies the problem resulting in horrifically wounded animals. I have no problem with killing. It's the unnecessary causing of pain/abuse that frosts me.
I respectfully disagree with you, Sean. We are only allowed to hunt with shotguns. We use slugs. Out of the 6 deer that our family shot this year, there was only a small amount of wasted meat on a deer that turned and was quartering away as my nephew shot. She went down and he was able to get to her and finish her off in less than a minute. The rest of the deer were heart/lung shot. All the slug hunters I know wait to try to get that kill shot. Why just shoot at the body? You risk ruining a lot of meat that way.Lots of shotgun hunters are...because they aim for the whole deer and not the vital spot for a heart/lung shot.
Again - it’s not just slug hunters that do that. There are a lot of others who also just shoot (bow, shotgun or rifle) and if the animal doesn’t drop right in its tracks, don’t bother to look for blood or a downed animal. And therein lies the problem resulting in horrifically wounded animals. Maybe its a bit like anything we as humans doI respectfully disagree with you, Sean. We are only allowed to hunt with shotguns. We use slugs.
