How Soon After Adding Light Should They Lay?

We are just over 7wks now - with one who has laid an egg daily for a week now. The 4 males are crowing, 2 are foaming during check. Lights have been on them 2 days now. So when should the other's catch up - we have 6 ladies not laying and they are ALL from the same hatch.

Anyone have an idea?

They should lay in due time

Some will take longer than others. With lighting, that shall speed the process a bit

Keep us posted.

I went to the Coturnix Quail basics sticky (top of the list of topics). The author of that sticky suggests that 14 hrs of light will induce laying, and to expect it after about two weeks. (That is how I interpreted it, I may be misunderstanding, but it sounds sensible).

Also I have read in different (very few I might add) quail books that Coturnix begin to lay anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. So it sounds like you just have some girls who are trying to mature for you. So once again patience is key.

I almost think the bird/poultry hobby or passion is an entire exercise in patience and learning.

Hang in there... I would definitely want my girls to take their time so that they layed longer in their life....if that is how it works.
I am waiting on one girl myself.... It almost seems she knows it and is annoyed with me staring all the time!

It is good to read and re-read those stickies I tell ya. I have a dozen times.
