I have some young chicks almost feathered out, that I want to move in with the last clutch( which is about 2-3 weeks older). Would that be a problem, can't put in with the adults yet????
It might work, or it might not. You could try distracting them with treats or new items (a new roost, something new to jump on, etc.) Having hding places is a good idea. If possible, do the combining in an area none of them are familiar with. If any blood is drawn, you will need to separate again.
Here is a update Picture(S) of my chicks. The younger ones have been in the same big cage for a week(in their smaller cage which they are outgrowing fast)..
Think I
I would wait a couple weeks, or gradually introduce them when you can supervise, and then separate when you can't. I have 6 wks and 4 wks. I started introducing them last week. Started by putting cage in coop. Then I turned out the older ones out of the coop, and let the babies have run of the coop. Then I put an individual big brother/sister in the coop with the babies for 5 minutes or so. Surprisingly the roos were the gentlest. Few pecks to the head, but nothing serious. Did this for a few days. Tuesday night was their first night together. I was a nervous wreck! The older ones roosted. The babies huddled up in a corner. Wednesday morning everyone was OK. The only time there is a problem is when an older chick is eating and a little one sort of tries to take their place at the feeder, but a light peck to the head puts the chick in it's place quickly
