how to care for silkies properly?

Silkies are very tame, even the roosters! They have feathers that look like fur and black skin. I have some white silkies that are under 1 year and they have hatched out two batches of chicks and one yet to come. They take very little care except for keeping them out of the rain because of their feathers.

6 silkies ( 4 hens and 2 roosters )

I just got some silkie hatching eggs and they are fertile and going to hatch on January 7th. They are for my 5 year old daughter to take to show at the fair. How big do they get about. She loves my buff Orpingtons but they are big and weigh quiet a bit and are really almost to heavy for her to pick up. Someone said they would be perfect for her and i was just wondering. I have no idea what I am doing with silkies but I show my daughter and her brother and their dad pictures of them and my son hates them and my husband said they look like a chicken breed with a poodle, and my daughter will be 6 July and she loves the way they look. My son got Blue, Black, Splash Orpington eggs to show when they hatch. I just didn't know all those things about silkies is there anything else about them that would be helpful. Do they need a roost. Can they get off a roost with out getting hurt.

I have 3 silkies and thier 4 weeks old now. I put a tree limb about 2inches high in their broader about a week ago and their on it every night. Its really cute to see them all cuddled up on it and snuggling each other. 1 splash,1white and 1 silver. Stella,Thelma and Louise.

Im curious why is it the smallest of them all is the one who "trys" to be the dominate one bumping bellies?

Is it too soon to start putting a little blend of different nuts finely crushed mixed in with their medicated chick feed? Their now 4 weeks old as of today!

I've been told they can be plucked so they can see better. my first silkies hatched yesterday, but i won't be getting them here at my house until the 18th. We currently only have standard size hens.

I just got a four week old black silkie the other day, and I swear it rules me already. Not sure what I have yet. Galaxy sees me walking past the brooder, and cries till I take it out!!! Too darn cute!!! It looks like it stuck its wing in an outlet! Lol!
