How To Catch A Chicken

I turn on the hose. They run straight for the coop!

Getting them in the coop isn't the problem. It's catching them to cull.

I just lift them off the roost at night. No fuss or upset. Mind you, it usually means I am processing until midnight!

That's what I don't want! I'm an early bird-staying up to do that is what I dread! Guess I won't have much choice, tho, if I want to get it done. I have 3 cockerels now that aren't getting any younger. My white one is always bloody, the girls don't like him at all. He's always challenging the cuckoo marans I want to keep. My older hens give him what for! but they don't mind the cuckoo.

If you are an early bird, then get up before dawn and pick them off the roost and do it then. It only takes a few minutes to kill them and you can always leave them to bleed out and come back after breakfast to process them.
