Hi,
I am also a Pointe-Claire resident and I am very interested in permaculture design and the possibility of raising chickens on my property. I would be happy to join you on this and I have a few connections that may be useful. Strength in numbers!
Hello Catherine , officially there are no bylaws in place in Pointe Claire to forbid anyone from having hens as pets. Roosters are a nose nuisance so are not allowed on those grounds. The bylaws in place pertain to planning which do not allow you to build a barn to house animals like sheep, pigs, cows etc. I have 3 hens and that is plenty to supply a good amount of eggs for my family of 4. Keeping hens are a big responsibility that needs you to care for them like you would do any other pet ie dog , cat, reptiles, fish etc. Providing a varied healthy diet, good clean secure living accommodations, secure garden if you want to free range them with supervision only. The city of Pointe Claire know I have 3 hens for at least the past 4 years and have allowed me to keep them . One point before considering to raise your own hens in Pointe Claire is that their are no vets in the area willing to treat chickens. Please do not have more than 3 hens, no roosters, provide a safe area to lock them up in at night to discourage predators. If kept in an outside shed in the winter use composting method to heat rather than electricity to avoid any fire risks. Good luck and enjoy because chickens are the very best pets.Hi, i live in pointe-claire. Has there been any official approval to keep urban chickens finally?
The city has moved on to other things and allowed me to keep my chickens. I still have 3 egg laying hens in my Pte Claire home and could not be happier they make great pets. Therapy chickens are a real thing and they are super gardeners helping to get rid of grubs, tics, invasive Japanese beetles and even mosquitoes. I love them .Hi,
Any updates on this? I'm a Pte. Claire resident also, and would love to keep a couple of chickens. It's been legal in Kingston, Ont. for some time now. (No roosters, though.)
I'd be happy to add my voice to the list. Let me know where to sign up!
