How to control Bird Mites?

I have 30 homing pigeons that have mites. How do I get rid of them? Its not only a problem for the birds but the mites get on me as well everytime I go into the coop and cause lots of itching. I've tried Scalex a permethrin product for a week now spraying the entire dirt floor of the coop to include all of the nesting boxes. The birds wont allow me to catch them to be sprayed so I'm trying to get as close to the one that will allow and spraying those. Is this the best product? Thanks

Not sure if it works for pigeons but with chickens what I've read is to spray the Permethrin mix (misty) at night when they roost. Chickens are zombies at night, not sure if pigeons are. I'm sure someone with more experience will be joining in shortly...Hate biting bugs! Good luck
