How to convince a parent you need chickens

before even showing the plans to him I came up with an estimate of how much it would cost for the startup expense and monthly expense if we did not have all of the materials on hand already. the only things we dont have are the actual chickens and the feed we have all the rest. every morning I get up check my dogs food and water and if she needs it give her food and water, check my guinea pigs food and water, feed my fish and then I have to take care of my 1yr old brother all day and he is a handful along with all that I have to get my school work done (I am homeschooled) so I would say yes I get my chores done. often I wash my dog before my mom gets to me and complains about her stinking. and I clean my guinea pigs cage when I get the chance every 2 weeks, usually before I am told to.

nice way to put it.

I was thinking along the same lines. Those with good hobbies, and taken care of chicken would fall under that ,sure does help keep kids out of trouble.

I have the same problem.

I've been wanting them for almost two years now. I've been THAT close to getting them once

My Dad wasn't cool with the idea...but the woman sorta run the show around here...so it was too bad for him.
He likes that we get eggs. He likes my big birds who lay consistently and who lay big eggs.
He doesn't like my bantams at all.
Show your Dad some different breeds. How often they lay, what size the eggs are.

My dad was warned that we were getting chicks for 4-H and was alright. When we started adding to the flock (5 at the time) he got a little concerned.

We stopped at 11 for now, but when we get an incubator and a real coop, I might "accidently" keep some more.

I liked my own child being involved in showing horses and dogs because he didn't have any time left to get in trouble. My riding students were too busy shoveling poo and brushing horses to get into drugs.

Can you join a local 4H group? A safe activity is a very good sales point for any parent.

If all else fails, time goes by quickly and soon you can be out on your own and have all the chickens you want.
