I have too many roos I know - but I don;t know how to decide who to keep - I want to keep them all

I have a total of 11 hens and 5 roos
2 RIR 1BR 1 white silkie roo and 1 Delaware Blue hen roo that hatched here
I was thinking of getting rid of 1 RIR and the BR- because I really want to keep the silkie and DBH roo - that would leave 3 and the biggest roo is definitly the alpha - how does everyone decide ?

We go on three things - temperament, relatedness and looks. A rooster that looks after his hens and alerts them to predators, but doesn't attack us is a good rooster. Sometimes the alpha male types can be vicious to humans; that's not good.

All other things being equal, keep roosters that are unrelated to your hens.

And last but maybe not least, you have to look at the guys, so leep ones that are easy on the eyes.

That's what I was thinking - I'm waiting for all of them to get there personalities to decide who is nice and who is not

I'm finding myself in a similar situation and I'm curious to hear others' opinions on this.

I need to choose one to keep in addition to the one I already have, and I have lots of young'uns, so I'm watching behavior for attentiveness, too much aggression, etc. My concern is that if I remove the most aggressive ones, the lesser roos will step up. Hmmm. I'm sort of waiting for one of them to just..."speak to me"...if you will.

This is very good advice and all other things being equal, keep the one that you are most attracted to, not just in looks but in personality too.

.. We sorta have a neighbor without chickens issue. Every time I see her she comments on ALL the rooster noise in the neighborhood. I hear one for sure

and another every once in a while. Lucky people. I'm just tryin to be neighborly and hoping she'll lighten by with fresh eggs once our girls start laying. Best of luck to all, especially the roosters...

I agree with the other posts, good advice. I would keep the one that you are most attracted to keeping in mind the personality traits and behavior.
