I didnt realize that you could feed scraps to chickens? what else besides fruit and veggie scraps/peelings?

toast, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, potatos, whatever we can they can eat--except advocados, green potato peels---and I know there are a few other things--I know there was a list posted on here efore--I know someone will know where it is. ut pretty much anything is fair game to them in a fair amount. Their main supply should be their seed though..

I feedmine almost everything I eat.I also feed them there egg shells and I haven't worried about them drying.I put them in the scrap bucket with the scraps and they eat them.I feed mine raw oatmeal for a treat by spreading it on the ground.I stay away from cracked corn and scratch in the summer because it produces heat in the chickens body that they don't need.Resume that in the winter.Thet get watermeleon,canalope.tomatoes.Black olive sunflower seeds. The sky is pretty much the limit. There are a few things you can't feed. When in doubt ask on here and there is always someone to help you.I don't feed them meat but that is me.It will not harm them.I do feed them scrambled eggs(left overs)I enjoy them to much.

I microwave mine for about 30 seconds and then crush them up with my hands. I put them in a tin pie plate in their run. it takes them awhile to eat them but they always eventually do.

I put my shells in a bowl and smash them up with the wooden spoon. Then I add them to their feed.

Is there a problem in not letting them dry out as others do? They eat them all up this way and no problems with eating their eggs.

I like to let them dry so that they can be crushed into small pieces and not resemble eggs. Before they dry out the membrane holds the shell pieces together.

That's the only reason I air dry mine. They crush apart better. I just dump them in the oystershell container and they get whatever. My grandma just crushed them out of shape and tossed them in the pen for her chickens. Never had any issues.
