How to fill gaps at top of coop/run?

Right now on the shorter sides the hardware cloth goes up to the rafter. But then there is a 1.5 inch gap to the roof where the purlins are running. Do we need to fill that? If so, how would you do it when we can't attach the hardware cloth directly to the plastic roof?

you don't have to unless you are worried about predator. But I would say just cut and hang hardware to fit
