How to get extra fluffy show class plumage on Brahma and cochins

Dear All,

Please be so kind to advise about how to raise a show quality bird.
what do we need in feed ? any special care instructions. I want my birds to have extra fluffy lusterous plumage.

I have a Cochin, and though I haven't shown her, I just feed her normal layer feed. Her feathers are nice and glossy and abundant. However, if you want to have a better bird with even shinier plumage, give it a higher protein feed. Game bird feeds are often used for show quality poultry, as they give them better feathers. Sunflower seeds are also good for improving feather shine and luster.

Thanks Wyandottes. Do you think weather plays any role in plumage. I mean , I live in Lahore and weather here is very hot. I noticed that birds from colder areas have thick plumage as compared to our area

yea, i think if it is cold then they have more plumage, if it is hot they mollt off they feathers, leaving less plumage i think i am not sure.

Hare are the pictures for comparison. One with less plumage is from Lahore average temperature in summer 114 F to 118 F. Winter span is only 90 days. The second one is from Hungry where weather is always plesant.

The first one appears to be crossbred. Note the difference in body shape. It also appears to have vulture hocks. Both birds have single combs, but are more brahma than cochin in type. Cochins have single combs, brahmas should have pea combs Both brahmas and cochins should have soft feathering (ha+).

We don't get quite as hot as you where I live, but almost. We had a few 118 days last summer; fortunately only 2 or 3. I don't currently have cochins, but I have had them, and both they and my brahmas are plenty soft. I think you need to find the best quality birds you can and breed in the soft feathering, or possibly start with birds that already have all the traits you need.
