how to get rid of a hawk killing my chickens

You know the whole thing here in Missouri is strange.

We had a fox three years ago decimate the flocks on our road killing chickens and guineas to feed her kits. I didn't lose any birds but I've got a Fort Knox coop and run but everyone else did.

When I called the conservation dept and asked them if they would catch and remove the mother and her kits they said no. They have proven to be a threat and have killed livestock. You all have the right to shoot them on sight.

Okaaaaay...then then there is the story we heard about an area person who called the sheriff about a neighbor's goats getting in their garden. Sheriff came, heard the story and said 'You called me out here to deal with Farmer stuff! This is a farmer problem, y'all deal with it!' and promptly left.

Okay, so which is it? A nuisance animal killing livestock or a Farmer matter? It does make one wonder, doesn't it?
One is a farm animal the other is wildlife. There’s laws for both on the books. In most states you can kill any animal unless protected that’s killing livestock. Again why is everyone calling people instead of just taking care of it themselves.

Hawks and owls may eat your chickens but they keep the mice and rat population down.

Never heard that about black chickens. But I had black chickens and although they were never taken by hawks, I would still see hawks wanting to get them.

really so the hawks were still around with all black chickens hmmm ok thanks for the input

Well, there is taking care of it then there is taking care of it when it is out of season for hunting here in MO. Peeps get in trouble for that.

Nobody really wanted to see the fox in my narrative killed. She was a beautiful animal in spite of killing all their chickens and guineas so relocating her and her kits was the first option tried. Once I passed on the information about using extreme prejudice against her, I heard no more about the problem. I imagine somebody did just that because I haven't seen her since then.

I have killed a lot of foxes in my yard over the years. I don’t hold any grudges against them but I’m still blowing their heads off if I can. The idea of raising chickens, livestock etc is to be self sufficient. I don’t feel the need to check in with a squirrel cop to keep my chickens alive.

I don't have fox problem on my property just hawks at the moment but im with you im not raising chickens to feed the foxes and hawks!!!!!

Fortunately, not here. I have a dream of one getting tangled in my netting so I can call the conservation department and tell them to come get their hawk/eagle/owl before I turn my bantam roosters loose on it. They be little but I imagine they would make a bird of prey turn vegan real fast! :gigOr at least swear off chickens.
What if you wear a chicken suit and wear him out! We all are chicken crazy so think we could get away with self recognized as a chicken.
