Earlier when I opened the coop there was a Sybil egg, cracked and frozen solid, in the nest. It was 2°F at around 7am and I didn't come out until nearly 9, she usually lays her eggs anywhere from 6-8am, which means it likely only took the egg an hour or 2 to freeze completely. Even with the heater in there.

I took the egg and threw it on the ground to try and smash it. It just bounced about a foot in the air. So I stepped on it and it took my full weight to crush it flat! The girls went crazy devouring it

Sybil is starting to drop feathers here and there now, and I think Magrat is, too. Why did you girls have to wait until so late in the year?! Aren't you freezing your gutchies off?! I see Esme shivering a bit throughout the day but hardly!

They are Baby Three dolls. I got mine on whatnot but there are lots of places to buy them! Kiddo collects them so we needed christmas ones haha.

And yeah, cracking those frozen eggs is difficult! I've been feeding back about half of the eggs, any that aren't warm under a broody get cracked and tossed back in the run or in the big coop for them to eat.

Does the float test work on fertile eggs?
I found another nest, with brown and off-white eggs.
I found the nest because one new hen was calling for a rooster escort! All the eggs sank. Some heavier than others

My gang also are still dropping feathers. Chickie-chick is not a happy girl. And I see some different feathers now this morning- I will need to see who that is!

You need to candle the eggs to see if anyone has been sitting on them, and if anything is developing.

If you don’t see anything developing then no chicklets.

It’s difficult when they are out and about isn’t it? I live in fear of finding a Mrs LC nest with 1200 eggs in it!
