How to Grow a Blueberry Bush

OMG those berries are huge!!! Very easy for Kiusa to "pick" lol

It has been many years since my mother and I used to go to the bogs to pick cranberries-- I could hear my dog popping the cranberries as she ate them---- lots of good vitamin C !!

I cut a number of cuttings, lol, from the tall high bush blueberry at the BR turkey pen. I took both wood cuttings and new growth cuttings to compare development. Need a mister though-- which I had thought of it when I drove by the tack shop today. Could have picked up a spary bottle then.

I did buy a RUbels variety on sale-- a prolific wild blueberry type.

I have started to wonder about cultivated blue berries-- and if I went that direction would want the best flavored berry ever. ANyone have suggestions for a northern garden??

I've bought some stuff from them and will get some blueberries this fall. They have a lot of info about zones.

They're not that big, about a centimeter max in diameter. One heck of a job to pick them. But they are packed with taste, I'd say our wild blueberries have twice the amount of taste as a much larger bushgrown one.

For our dogs, it's the season of blue poop.

My chickens are eating a lot of plumbs--they are having plum colored poop.....

THen I went out to clean a coop and looked at the mounds of poo in buckets of shavings and thought "Blueberry fertilizer!!" I was tickled with the thrill of a new job for the material that usually gets sprinkled around the woods. Here was mulch for the blue berries. THEN my spirits dropped. While the blue berries can be mulched at any time, the application of fertilizer especially the nitrogen component can only be applied BEFORE the bushes flower.

Now what to do????????????

I have to admit, it seems to me they have been getting bigger the past few years. Both berries and leaves. I think I've eaten bush grown maybe 5-6 times in my life, but in my opinion they're inferior to the frozen wild ones in both taste and price. A 200g back of frozen blueberries costs about 2-3 euros usually. Sometimes you can get them for less even, I've seen four for 5 euros on sale.

We went for our evening walk again. This is how it looks in every direction.

I think we're going to start doing this every evening, just grab the mini bucket with us.

I weighed the contents before freezing them, about 350 grams.

The lingonberries seem to be doing well too, in a month or two they will ripen and turn red.

Vehve they look good. I just planted some blueberry cuttings that Arielle send me I am watering them with root boost every now and then. Hoping they will root!
