How to Grow a Blueberry Bush

I tried to catch the drop off and the hill. The trees are in the bottom just before the hill in this pic. It is not much of a hill but it is a hill. lol

This look like where I have my coop. A little downward. Flat Louisiana But I'm NW La and it never floods here.

Cickadoodles-- my favorite fish is CATFISH!!! Good flavor and great texture, not like a fish. lol

We have had more and more houses going up around us. I can hear dogs barking and see lights thru the woods--Fortunately we are mostly surrounded by state land that cannot be developed. Kept for hunting and hiking and NO motorized vehicles.

This is what I wake up to in the mornings. It's a cloudy day expecting rain.

This is a good site. I bought strawberries last year and just ran out of money as all the sales came on. This year I'm going to buy a few. Super healthy.

One last post. Per Mikes instructions, get a dishpan like container with holes in sides and bottom Fill with very course sand. Like making cement. Put your soft cuttings about an inch apart. I put about 30 or so in a plastic strainer. Soft is the ones that bend. Water really good. Get 4 pencils and stand in each corner. Carefully put a white trash bag over it and close gently. Put outside in a shady area that gets no sun. Every 4-5 days water again and close. Should be rooted in a couple of weeks. I'd leave it in the container for a while. Then individually pot into 5 inch pots. Or in the ground. Plenty of water. I did 50 hydrangeas and they were rooting great. Then I got side tracked and a lot died. I couldn't understand it and found out that Home Depot gave me play sand. Too packy and didn't drain well. But It does work well.

Hmm-- I have bought play sand from Home Depot and it is very fine and packs when wet. So I think something that doesn't pack, not a beach sand, not a fine sand. I have visions of vermiculite blended with sand . . .

Does this method work with dormant plants?? My rhodies have huge leaves from spring growth . . . ???

Arielle I can just see all those fruit trees and berries planted now! I hope you will take and share some pics.
Working at the nurseries we just cut and stuck the cuttings straight into the potting soil and kept them moist and they rooted!
I worked at Southern Homes and Gardens in Montgomery, AL. they have 300 acres of farm land with most of the land being used to plant and grow landscaping plants for Southern Growers. I saw the workers every day cutting and rooting the cuttings just like we did at the nursery. Yes you can get better results if you want to go spend money on sand or other materials but it is not necessary.

Linda thanks for sharing the Berries unlimited page! I have been hunting berries like crazy.
I have the coarse sand in the sand box that is unused these days. . . and tons of compost-- half and half??

DH's fav fish is catfish. The only way he gets some is if we go out to eat. lol

That mound in the front is blackberries we have them everywhere.

I would do one or the other or even try some of each and see which works best. But cut off most of the leaves only leave one or two and cut them in half or they will use to much sap to keep the leaves alive instead of making roots.
Yup, something special to watch animals grazing; bet chickadoodles cattle are grazed there . I have sheep!!
Yes this is the cow pasture and this mound in the front is blackberries. Your sheep will love all the new plants you are planting in the pasture for them. We have most of our land fenced for the cows and we have divided it so we can manage the pastures we rotate them. We also plant winter rye so we don't have to buy as much hay.

Quote: OK, I'll do the slant cut.

Think I"ll just take th easy route and fence off a section of the compost pile. TO keep the chickens from disturbing them.

Heard you rain wil be arriving here late on wed, a little later than forcasted, so buys me a few hours of planting in the morning before they arrive!!
