I looked into it, actually the laws intent is to achieve the goal of each citizen having broadband access, but it only states that governmental monetary support is to be given for building broadband networks in sparsely populated areas. And yes, Finland, not the US. I should maybe be clearer about that. You've been sci fi again right.![]()

I have a phone like that!!!! IT sat on my grandfathers desk and I claimed it when it became available. Just a sentimental momento. That I love.We just upgraded from dial up a couple of years ago! I have an old fashioned telephone down stairs... remember the kind where you put your finger in the hole and turn the dial for each number???
Is that the same as Wi Fi ?? I have told DH that in a year from now we are upgrading so prepare for the change buddy!! lol He mentioned WIFI as a good option . . . . is that satillite?? Maybe it depends on location-- here I have almost nil on cell phone coverage; could get Fios but . . . not sure about all the cables to bury 1500 feet road to house . . .I feel like I have gone backwards. I was used to having cable internet, now where we live we have to have satellite internet and it is not much faster if any than broadband.![]()

Quote: If your DH is talking about WIFI off of your phone there is a limit as to how much you can use it or you will have to pay overages and it depends on your signal strength also.
Def go with either broadband or cable.
Quote: Hi Ron!
Fios said they would run the cabling about 6 inches down under the surface of the ground. Because they do the work, I worry that they will not be careful of the exisitng cables and power (latter is in plastic conduit). I do have cable already wired thru the foundation wall-- that would probably feel like an upgrade. I have heard Fios is not the best either- but maybe that is only a speed thng. IDK.
IF I understand this correctly, WIFI is a wireless connection to cable. Right?Satellite = A big hunk of metal up in outer space, floating above you with an attached mirror from which the signal is bounced between your carrier and your own satellite dish.
WiFi or wlan = A wifi router attached to a cable connection, broadcasting the signal between your devices and the router. I think some US internet service providers provide huge wifi connections, so that you don't need your own equipment. Here in Finland we only have mobile networks, or personal wifi networks connected to our own cable or dsl connections.
Mobile network = A cell tower which connects directly to your devices
Cable or dsl = optical fibers or copper cables dug into the ground, connected all the way to your house. This is usually the fastest method, unless you have LTE cell network towers close by. The downside is, that it costs a bit of money to dig the cables into the ground.
