How to keep gnats away from coop??

[Newbie to chickens]

I currently have a flock of four birds in my backyard and previously never encountered gnats, as they’re not very common in Malaysia.

The gnats(I think they are, tiny little flying black bugs) are always on my chickens heads sucking blood(but the gnats don’t bite us at all) and one of my chicken’s comb and wattles is extremely dry and looks a little infected. I attached photos, please advise on how to treat. Also, I saw a post that said creating a vanilla extract solution and spraying on their heads will keep gnats away, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Any tips?

I have not experience with gnats, but as she is looking very pale I would check the coop, nesting boxes, underside of roosting bars etc for blood sucking poultry mites.

I can;t even keep gnats off me at the time of year when they are prevalent is Australia.
Spray the ground and nest boxs with a Pyrethrin based chemical.
We find it safe to use these chemicals in the finch and budgie avairies to control flying and crawling pests.
