How to kill 3 chicks in 45 min- Confessions of "city folk"

I'm so sorry. chicks are fragile creatures, and might have died no matter what you did.

Next time, try a heating pad set on low. Put the chickie box on a towel over the heating pad. That provides gentle radiant heat without possibility of carbon monoxide. It worked for me!

Even people who've raised chickens for years lose some to simple mistakes. I had 105 RIR come in last week. I ran out of brooder space and hauled out an old cage and placed 45 chicks in it. I didn't think they could squeeze out of the cage...but they did.

My brother's cat has been getting into the shop and I thought I plugged up all her ways in... I missed one. When I opened the next day I saw five chicks still in the cage and no sign of the others. Then I found small blood trails that lead to where the cat got in.

Forgive me if I ramble a bit. Years ago when I was still in the Army I was taking a pretty intensive French language course. I would get French movies from the library and watch them trying to help with my proficiency in the language. One of the movies was about a city guy who moved out to the country. One of the things he wanted to do was raise rabbits. He read lots of books on the subject and proceded to start raising rabbits. His neighbors made fun of him because of his book knowledge and his lack of experience. This is starting to sound bad. Don't beat yourself up because of book knowledge and lack of practical experience. I don't think anyone here will.

You have done what a lot of us do. Research and research and then try to apply what we learn. Sometimes it doesn't work. When that happens we analyze what happened and take corrective action. I don't know why the chicks died. I don't know how old they were and if that was a factor. You did the best you could under the circumstances. Don't quit. Get up and try again.

Those aren't the original babies are they?
When you said here they are now.... I thought did they wake up?
