How to know if chickens are too hot or too cold?

At 5 to 6 weeks old they should be fully feathered and be able to do fine at the temps you have there.

As was posted above, they can often be a bit scared at first and will cuddle for the first couple of nights.

make sure they know where home is too. It can take a bit for them to rehome

I completely agree with this! If they have an open space you may have to go physically place them in the roost come evening; mine wanted to roost on the edge of flower beds, but they'll get it soon enough!

Certainly by 5-6 weeks their old enough to huddle and don't need artificial heat unless it drops well below freezing for sustained periods.

Hello all! I am a first time chick mom on day three with my 13 chicks and am noticing that one chick, the smallest one, is not settling as well as the others. She is constantly standing even when she’s trying to sleep and chirping much more than the others. I believe she is cold as she is not as tall or close to the heater as the other chicks and that’s why she is constantly standing to be closer to the heat source. How can I warm her up without making the other chicks too warm?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Is there an area in the brooder that is not being heated? Keep one end of the brooder warm and the other end (the end with the food and water) neutral. They can decide for themselves how close they want to be to the heat. One thing, make sure there are no spots in the heated area where a chick could get trapped by the others and get overheated. I hope that helps since I really don’t know how your brooder is set up.
