How to make the most money

Whatever breed you decide on, definitely look for quality over quantity. You can ask a higher price and have less feed involved. This being said, even after raising chickens steadily for five years, it is still nowhere near our primary income. At least we have made a profit for the last three years, just not that much.

If you want to make something then you have them sold before they hatch

Welcome from all your new best friends! I started raising chickens for eggs and meat like my parents did. My twins wanted to start their own business so we chose to sell our surplus eggs. ( my twins think 5$ is a lot of money!) The best thing to do is decide what you want for yourself. Birds that can forage like mine cost half the feed. In the poultry world it's called feed conversion rate. If your going to raise a particular breed you'll have to make some separate spaces for each breed. I raise Rhode Island Reds and Light Brahmas. These are Heritage Breeds and since we don't have gobs of money we let them out everyday to find bugs, weeds etc.. on their own so it's less for feed for us. If you make a few rolling coops you can wheel them around the lawn and provide good forage that way too. There's an old Joke that goes, a boy asks his grandpa the farmer how much did he make growing corn, the grandpa says, "well son I've been farmin' for 50 years! , when I actually make a buck, I'll let you know!"

Good free range all natural eggs can sell for 3.00 or more a dozen. But Bantam eggs are too small to sell just for eating. Check out your local Poultry Auctions! Get a feel for what animals go for how much and if it's cost effective to hatch, breed, feed and raise them or buy adult birds. Bantam birds are miniatures of their bigger cousins, at the auctions you will see which breeds go for a bit more money but also may be harder to raise. I happened to have RIR's and I'm able to sell just hatched chicks at our local auction and two different local stores. Great Luck to you! I hope you do well....

If I can offer any advice or practical tips I'll do the best I can.

Right now I am raising 43 egg laying chickens, but I want to make some more money than a few bucks a day. I'm going to keep my egg chickens, but i want to make a little more money. Do you guys think ducks would be easier to raise for meat? They don't eat as much as turkeys. How much is it for one pound of duck meat?
