So I am a little confused on which way to lay the egg in my incubator. I have a homemade one that uses cartons. However I know you store them big side up. and I know they need to be turned. When you think of the hen, she doesnt have her eggs big side up. What is the best way to position them and best way to rotate them.

I have searched for the answer and havent found it. Sorry if this is a repeat question.

Thanks

I an far from an expert, I am basing this answer from bits and pieces of info I've heard from places.

So you are meant to turn three times a day, and most incubators have their eggs upright, not on their sides. It doesn't matter which side up you put them, coz you'll be turning them round anyway. You could put a x on one said and an o on the other so if you have a large number of eggs you can turn them all.
Hope I helped.

Many bird eggs will not hatch standing up, they have to be laid on their sides. That is why the most expensive incubators, used by specialists for expensive eggs, have roller turners.

Through generations of selection, chicken, most ducks and geese will tolerate being incubated upright. Most cheaper egg turners arrange them this way.

If you are manually turning, you can lay them on their sides and turn them individually, or put them in cartons and turn them together.
